Welcome to our Travel Advisor Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the incredible professionals who we have worked with through the years across the TravelSMG events! Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to O. Lee Pettyjohn of Unlimited Destinations, LLC.
What got you into the Travel Industry and how long have you been an Advisor?
I have been blessed to be a Travel Advisor for 16 years. I began home schooling my children, and looking for at home jobs; and after going through a plethora of at-home job opportunities, I finally found THE opportunity for me! I have a Master's degree in Psychology, but my love is for 'everything travel', so my travel business has flourished as a result of my love of travel and the industry!
What made you first realize the value that a Travel Advisor brings to a consumer’s travel experience?
Roughly 4 years in the industry when I had a group trip where the vendor was changing flights, and my clients were in a bit of an uproar,I stepped into my role of a true advisor, and Travel Advisor, to make sure that not only the flight changes, but the potential resort changes for that group of 25 was handled properly. At the time, that number seemed like 250, but I was able to be a true advocate for my clients and to make sure that the changes presented and attempted to enforce were not. My clients were so appreciative, and I earned clients for life!
What does being a Travel Advisor mean to you?
Being a Travel Advisor means the world to me! I was able to not only teach my children about the world, as a home school parent, but I was also able to show them this AHmazing world of ours! I love 'everything travel' and doing everything that I can for my clients. It means advocating, assisting, encouraging, listening, and so much more! My clients are like family to me!
What’s your favorite type of trip to plan for a client?
I have a lot of amazing trips and opportunities for my clients; but my absolute favorite trip is an annual Cruise for a Cause that I take every year. It's a short cruise to the Bahamas, but the meaning and purpose behind it is huge! We go to the Bahamas Emergency Hostel (orphanage), taking clothing, school supplies, etc. We also stop and purchase lunch, to serve the children and staff in the home. This, being a short cruise experience, doesn't yield as much commission as many of our groups, but it's one of the most meaningful experiences that I look forward to every year, as we are currently preparing for the 8th annual event this Fall!
Where is your favorite place to travel?
That is a tough one, as I love so many places! I've visited 21 different countries in the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, and Asia; but if I had to choose, my absolute favorite place to visit is Jamaica. I love the culture and so much to do in that amazing country!
Who is your favorite Travel Supplier to work with?
Again, a difficult choice to make, as I enjoy working with many different travel suppliers. I would say my top favorie to work with are Culture Holidays and ALG Vacations.
