Travel Advisor Spotlight: Ken Keefer

Welcome to our Travel Advisor Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the incredible professionals who we have worked with through the years across the TravelSMG events!  Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to Ken Keefer from CK Tours & Cruises.

What got you into the Travel Industry and how long have you been an Advisor?

I just celebrated my 24th year as owner of CK Tours & Cruises. I got into travel on a whim due to my absolute love of it. There is an excellent story about how it all happened during a snowstorm and how I was stranded for two days in the Delta Lounge in Atalanta, making rash decisions :)

What made you first realize the value that a Travel Advisor brings to a consumer’s travel experience?

This happened on my first cruise on the Celebrity Horizon to Bermuda when the agent from a National Retailer had no clue about cruising or what to expect. When I purchased an agency, these interactions stuck with me, and I did not want to repeat them.

What does being a Travel Advisor mean to you?

It's all about creating lifelong memories while providing extraordinary experiences.

What’s your favorite type of trip to plan for a client?

My favorite type of trip to plan is our Expressly For You Itineraries. On these trips, we plan beyond client expectations, providing a service that isn’t replicable online.

Where is your favorite place to travel?

My favorite place to travel is a moving target, but the top three are Madeira, Crete, and Uruguay.

Who is your favorite Travel Supplier to work with?

My favorite suppliers are the private guides we partner with worldwide to provide Expressly For Your packages.

What’s one piece of advice that you would give to newer Advisors in the Industry?

Find your Niche, then learn the Niche inside out. Travel and experience your Niche; there is no better way to learn than by experiencing it. Stay focused before expanding to a broader offering.

What’s some advice that you would give to your fellow Advisors to keep them motivated when they get frustrated by their day-to-day?

I've been through 9/11, the Pig Virus, the Housing Crisis, and COVID, all depressing events, but you continue to push forward. In my case, I can't imagine doing anything else. Travel is what I do and what I want to do every day. And every day, I find a way to make it work.

What’s your favorite TravelSMG event to attend?

I have attended Owners, European, Romance, and Family TravelSMG Events. My Favorites are the European and Owners Forums. I have had incredible experiences and made essential business connections at both.

How has participating in TravelSMG events helped you as an Advisor?

Going to TravelSMG events has been transformative. The interactions and learning from my peers, meeting and connecting with new suppliers, and reconnecting with long-term suppliers are priceless.
